It has also been known as other names, including the Colt Lancer, Dodge Plymouth Colt, Chrysler Valiant Lancer, Chrysler Lancer, Hindustan Lancer, Mitsubishi Mirage and with the exception of the Lancer Evolution X, the Mitsubishi Lancer Fortis. There had been a total of nine generations of the Lancer produced. The car was named one of The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Picks and it was the first Mitsubishi that the Institute had tested to pass its new roll over test with a good rating. During its production throughout 1973 to 2008, over six million units were sold. Mitsubishi ended production of the Lancer in August 2017 worldwide, with the exception of Taiwan and Mainland China.
