The Buick Regal is classified as a mid-size luxury sedan that was introduced by General Motors (GM) over 40 years ago in 1973. North American production of the model concluded in 2004 but was started up again in 2011 with a new upscale sport sedan design. The Buick Regal was ranked #11 in Upscale Midsize Cars by U.S. News and World Report. The model was originally positioned as a personal luxury car, and typically offered in both coupe and sedan forms until 1997, when the Regal became sedan-only due to the decline of the personal luxury coupe market.

A new model of the Buick Regal was introduced in 2018 and it was offered in a liftback sedan and a "TourX" station wagon style. General Motors discontinued the Regal in the North American market after the 2020 model year, making Buick exclusively a CUV marque there. With a number of different generations, the look of the Regal has certainly changed over the years. The fifth-generation Buick Regal is a four-door, five-passenger, midsized sedan with a front engine, front-wheel drive layout. According to GM published information, more than 41% of Regal buyers in the US are coming from non-General Motors brands, and more than 60% of CXL Turbo buyers are under the age of 55.
