Classified as a minivan, the Ford Freestar can get up to 17 MPG (miles per gallon) in the city and up to 23 MPG on the highway. It comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 4.2 L V6 engine. The Freestar has a curb weight of 3,809 to 4,275 pounds and a fuel tank capacity of 26 gallons. It is available in two different body styles, including Cargo Van and Wagon. The van was previously known as the Ford Windstar, and it was in production by the Ford Motor Company between the 1994 to 2007 model years. The Freestar was the second minivan designed by Ford and it signaled a transition from RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) to FWD (Front Wheel Drive). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Windstar a 5 star rating in both side and front impact tests. J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study awarded the 2005 Ford Freestar 2nd place, only beaten by the Dodge Caravan. This minivan was a top contender for families who needed the extra space for passengers and cargo.
