It has a 4-speed automatic transmission and a towing capacity of 4,700 to 5,300 pounds. The van comes with a 4.3 L V6 engine and has a tire size of: P215/70R16. The GMC Safari is available in two different body styles. These body styles include the Cargo Van and the Passenger Van. It is a rear wheel drive (RWD) can that was introduced by General Motors to rival domestic competitors such as the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. Safari shares the platform with its sibling, the Chevy Astro. In addition to the van being used as a passenger van, it is also heavily used as a cargo van that offers an ample amount of space for storage. It is sized between the Chevrolet unibody minivan and the full size Chevy Van Express. The van utilizes powertrain components common to GM light trucks, similar to the Aerostar. It can pull 5500 pounds with the proper equipment. This is opposed to front wheel drive minivans; most of which are limited to a 3500 pound towing capacity.
