The Oldsmobile Aurora was considered a flagship sedan by Oldsmobile and it was in production from 1994 to 2003. During its time, it had been classified as a luxury sports sedan that was produced in two generations which, along with the two-door Buick Riviera, originated the Cadillac-derived G platform. The Aurora was powered by a four-cam, 32-valve 4.0 L V8 supplanting the Oldsmobile Toronado coupe and eventually the Oldsmobile 98, LSS and Regency in the lineup. The sedan was available with both a V8 and a V6-powered version in 2001 and 2002, however, it returned to being V8 only in 2003. It was equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission with performance algorithm shifting. The Aurora had been designed because General Motors (GM) wanted a new car to help rejuvenate the Oldsmobile brand. When it came to style, the Oldsmobile Aurora was based on the 1989 Oldsmobile Tube Car concept car.
