Classified as a mid size car, the Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight is classified as a mid size car that can get up to 19 MPG (miles per gallon) in the city and up to 29 MPG on the highway. The Eighty-Eight comes with a 3.8 L V6 engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It has a curb weight of 3,455 pounds and a fuel tank capacity of 18 gallons The Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight was available in three different configurations. These configurations include the Base, LS, and the 50th Anniversary Edition. The full size car was produced and sold by Oldsmobile from 1949 until 1999. The 8 had been the division's most profitable line from 1950 to 1974, particularly the entry level models such as the 88 and Dynamic 88. The 88 series was also an image leader for Oldsmobile, particularly in the early years (1949-1951), when it was one of the best performing automobiles, thanks to its relatively small size, light weight, and advanced overhead-valve high-compression V8 engine. The engine had originally been designed for the larger C-bodied and more luxurious 98 series. With the large, high performance V8, the Oldsmobile 88 is considered by some to be the first muscle car, although this title is disputed.
