These configurations include the LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, Limited, and the TRD Off Road. The crossover vehicle first made its debut in 1994 in Europe and Japan and then in North America in 1995. The vehicle was designed for consumers wanting a vehicle that had most of the benefits of SUVs, such as increased cargo room, higher visibility and the option of full-time four-wheel drive (4WD), along with the maneuverability and fuel economy of a compact car. The RAV4 showed signs of success early on and it paved the way for competitive compact crossover-SUVs such as the Ford Escape and the Subaru Forester. In most markets, the RAV4 is the only compact SUV or crossover available from Toyota. All US models feature Toyota's Star Safety System which includes Vehicle Stability Control. In the United States, the new RAV4 topped Toyota SUV sales and according to Kelley Blue Book, 92% of consumers would recommend the RAV4 to a friend.
