For those of you who just can’t get enough of cars and other types of automobiles, then a visit to these automobile museums in the U.S. is a must! We’re talking about the first of the first, rare finds, American sports dream cars, European cars, collector cars, cars that made a mark in the entertainment industry, and an opportunity to see how the automobile has played a part in history to our everyday lives today.

Take a last minute road trip before summer officially comes to an end or make it your next go-to destination. Catch a glimpse of these amazing automobiles and the stories and history behind it. There’s something for every auto lover to enjoy!

America’s Car Museum – Tacoma, Washington
We can’t leave out the largest car museum in the world to this list! America’s Car Museum is four-stories big at its 165,000-square-foot facility. Its collection includes vintage cars from the late Harold LeMay and his wife, Nancy.

Lane Motor Museum – Nashville, Tennessee
For those of you who fancy European vehicles, this museum is the one for you. Its collection includes cars and motorcycles that go back to the late 1920s. It’s one of a few museums in the U.S. to specialize in European cars, but on top of that, there’s also many unique cars. One of the weirdest at the Museum is the Helicron, a vehicle constructed in 1932 in France with a wooden body, four-foot propeller and wooden guard at the front of the vehicle.

Muscle Car City Museum – Punta Gorda, Florida
Here you’ll find classic cars and hot rods going back to the 1950s and a wonderful assortment of historic memorabilia, including road signs, the vintage gas pump, and much more.

Henry Ford Museum – Dearborn, Michigan
Want to experience history for real then this is the place for it. Its collection includes great marks of history like the first automobile Henry Ford ever built – the Quadricycle, the bus Rosa Parks rode where she stood up for her rights, the limousine that carried President John F. Kennedy before he was assassinated, and much more. There’s simply so much history to explore here it deserves a special trip!

National Automobile Museum – Reno, Nevada
Talk about rare finds, this is where you’ll find the pancake-engine Julian, Elvis Presley’s 1973 Cadillac Eldorado, and the chance to relive the days when the streets were filled with cobblestones and antique vehicles. See the historical timeline of the automobile and enjoy the sight of cars from the world-famous collection of the late Bill Harrah.

National Corvette Museum – Bowling Green, Kentucky
The Corvette – an American sports dream car for many – is the highlight at this museum. Find the only 1983 Corvette in existence and many other examples of the classic American sports car.

Petersen Automotive Museum – LA, California
There’s nothing that gets stale here. The Museum has ever-changing exhibits with a mission to present the history of automobiles while tying in its impact to life and culture in America. In 2015, the museum went through a massive renovation. With three themed floors to work through you’ll find plenty to satisfy your inner automotive exploration desires.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum – Indianapolis, Indiana
This is a hot museum find for those of you who are into race cars. Not only will you find race vehicles on display, but also memorabilia associated with the Indianapolis 500 race. Race car collections cover IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula One, Sprint, Midget, motorcycle races, and drag racing.

Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Racing sports car enthusiasts, this is the place to be! The Museum includes cars of historical significance including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford and more.

Volo Auto Museum – Volo, Illinois
If you’re traveling with family, this can make a nice visit! The museum is complete with TV and Movie cars, a kids zone, and even collector cars for sale, including antiques, classics and muscle cars.
